I have a guy coming tomorrow with what he says is a pristine K5 low hour engine and carb, but I have heard that too many times

Runs great but has a hard time shifting..

The guy told me that he kept blowing head gaskets and he was tired of dealing with it .... I wonder why?

Perhaps if he ground off the tops of all the heli-coils it might have actually worked
