Foxx4Beaver 2000 kx250 build
First, Thanks goes to Foxx4Beaver for allowing me to post this.
Picked up a 2000 250 for $200 from one of my best friends that he got off a kid .Has very little time on it....but unfortunately,it was in the hands of a 15yo that never.."NEVER"..did any maintenance of any kind to it.Needless to say,it needs a complete overhaul, the motor is smoked, the suspension is smoked,it sat the last 4 years cause the kid could'nt afford to fix it.I'm not sure if I'll keep it once it's done...depends on how much I end up spending, but between the motor and suspension,it'll be around $2k....but it'll probably be closer to $3k by the time I'm done with all the other little things along the way.
Who knows...I might change my mind and throw the 500 in it too

Re: Foxx4Beaver 2000 kx250 build
What I'm gonna do is rebuild the 250 over the winter, and ride it next year for awhile. Then during the Spring/Summer next year I'll pick up another K5 motor to put in the 250.To be completely honest,I really don't have the heart to tear my K5 apart with all the time/money/love I've got into it.Even if I was to part it out,I'd take a serious beating.....this way I can still have the best of both worlds....a PF K5 and an original chassis K5.
That's the current plan....could change without notice

Re: Foxx4Beaver 2000 kx250 build
Well I guess it's time for a quick update on the Next Project. After getting the motor split apart, luckily everything was accounted for and no chunks of anything floating around....just the usual aluminum clutch plate debris. The big end bearing on the crank was ABSOLUTELY SMOKED!!....how this thing did'nt grenade and blow itself to smitherines,or at the very least, vibrate itself into a bare frame,is nothing short of a miracle. The kid admitted he had no idea how to mix the fuel....so you can just imagine there were probably times that it was 150:1...and judging by the amount of black spooge the packing in the silencer had in it...it was probably run at 5:1 at times angry.I got the cylinder sent off to Power Seal today.I'm guessing they'll have to go one, maybe two sizes bigger to clean up the scores in the walls....we'll see.
I got rid of those horrible One Industries graphics and seat, and got some OEM stuff to throw on.I even found brand new OEM 2000 shroud graphics to make that part of it "correct".
It's got 01 graphics on it now...and they may be for sale once it's done.
I've got every OEM bearing and seal, and brand new OEM crank,OEM gaskets, new OEM clutch plates, new kick shaft because the kid snapped the other one off flush with the case trying to kick it while it was siezed angry. This completes the bottom....for now.

Re: Foxx4Beaver 2000 kx250 build
Got all the top-end parts last week, cylinder back from Power Seal with a nice shiny Wossner,Cometic head and base gasket, all other gaskets OEM.
Once I get the motor back together,I'll be pullin off the forks and shock and sending them up to Factory Connection for a complete rebuild/revalve...and then replacing every bearing through-out the whole chassis and wheels.A long ways to go still, but I should have it done by the begining of April.

Re: Foxx4Beaver 2000 kx250 build
Well I finally got the motor done and bolted back in...I was really hoping to have completed this entire thing by this time, but life threw one of it's curve-balls at me,and, this is where we're at.
I still have a LONG ways to go...I still have to get the suspension sent out,get new tires/tubes...the list is long.I just dropped an additional/unexpected $450+ the last 2 days on it...reason being, this thing was in a box torn down when I got it.Most everything was there,BUT...not everything has been the correct parts for this bike.If anyone remembers,I got this thing from a 15yo kid who had no idea what he was doing. In the last couple days, now that I'm getting closer to the end,I'm finding all kinds of little things missing,or needs to be replaced.Just had to get a new kickstarter, the old one had a hairline crack in it from the kid trying to start it while siezed.Had to get a 250 piece bolt kit for all the missing and rounded out bolt heads.I have NO idea what pipe this thing came with, but it is NOT a Kawie pipe...at least it does not match up with any of FMF's part#'s...both of the mounts are nearly 2" off...meaning this pipe was only held on by springs. So,I bought a complete Pro Circuit Platinum set-up yesterday with a "Shorty" silencer.
Maybe another month it'll be finished. cry

Re: Foxx4Beaver 2000 kx250 build
Well it's pretty much finished.Got it running last weekend after finding out my carb was'nt set up correctly.Once that was solved,it starts 1st kick cold or hot.I finished running the 1st tank through it this morning.
I still have a few minor cosmetic things I want to do it (like put on the 2000 graphics and some new plastics, etc, etc).I did'nt need to send out the suspension, surprisingly it works awesome, once I set the preload and played with the clickers, and put in all brand new linkage/swingarm bearings/sleeves....so there's a few hundred saved grin.
The thing rips!...compared to my 04 KX250...this thing puts it to shame!.I'm guessing it's because I had a Wiseco in my 04,and in this one I'm running the light-weight Wossner...allowing it to rev much quicker...just a guess huh.Right from the crack of the throttle til I hit 5th,it pulls hard, once it goes in 5th,it flattens out a bit,but unless I'm at Southwick,I don't have any tracks around here that'll need a wide open 5th gear.

Re: Foxx4Beaver 2000 kx250 build
Alright,it's done, with the new plastics and correct graphics...sure,I could keep on spending just like any one of us could on things that I don't really need,(and I probably will here and there)...I ended up at just about $2900,and that includes the $200 I paid for it.I replaced EVERY single bearing/collar/sleeve through-out the chassis/suspension with all OEM stuff...it's very plush, even with my 215lb ass on board.I can see a 500 going in this chassis at some point....I love how it feels/handles.

The goal was to make it look the same as the K5...it's close.

Re: Foxx4Beaver 2000 kx250 build
been almost 30 years since I bought red bike stuff...that was for my 83 CR125 back in '86.
just picked up this '12 CRF450 master for $40, and spent another $55 for a lever, rubber boot, banjo bolt and washers, for my 250.

Re: Foxx4Beaver 2000 kx250 build
I don't know what I was thinking...or not thinking undecided....I should've done the Honda master update a year and a half ago on the 250...amazing how "touchy" it is now....exactly how I like it.
A very well spent $95!!
I did have to shave the guard off for the hose/banjo bolt location...I could've kept it on there, but it would've caused me to have to put a touch too much stress on the hose and threads for the banjo, which I don't want to put any stress on either one...so I slowly ground it off on the bench grinder...
this was removed...
