I've said for years that the right rider on the right tack riding a kx500 will still dominate.

So, a guy riding 25 year old technology can be competitive if he knows how to ride and has his bike set up to take advantage of the K5's strengths.
Come on Kawasaki.... You have everything you need to update and bring the beast back in competitive form.
