eBay feedback system unfair to sellers.

Post by Sandblaster »

The eBay feedback system has long been known to be weighed heavily toward buyers.
In my opinion it is unconscionable for eBay to keep it as is.
A seller can't leave negative or Neutral feedback for buyers.
But buyers are free to trash sellers at will.
Why?
Because eBay want's it that way.
When a buyer want's to leave negative and neutral feedback they must check a box stating that they have contacted the seller about the problem.
In 15 years of selling on eBay I have only had one customer leave us negative feedback who actually contacted us before leaving the feedback.
In that case they bought a 80 dollar clutch basket they didn't like and wanted a refund of about 1500.
eBay did nothing about it even when I proved to them it was extortion.
So all the other customers lied when they said they had contacted us first about the problem.
This is about 30 or so in 15 years.
Anyway, if you are a seller and are tired of dealing with the eBay feedback system as it is, here is a letter I have sent to eBay:

Hello.
When a buyer goes to leave negative or neutral feedback there is a box that they must check that asks them if they have tried to contact the seller.
They must check YES in order to proceed.
I have received negative and neutral feedbacks and I can prove that no contact was made prior to the feedback being left.
Basically means that the buyer is not being truthful.
As I'm sure you can imagine this is very frustrating to respectable company that actually cares about their customers and their reputation.
This would be very easy to solve.
When there is a problem, DO NOT allow the buyer to leave any feedback until after they have actually sent an email to the seller and allow 72 hours for the seller to respond.
This would be very simple and effective.
If eBay really cares about sellers this would go a long way to show it.
Thank you for your concern.

If you go to the bottom of just about any eBay page you will see a link, "Tell us what you think"
Click on that link and paste that letter.
If enough of us send it in, maybe eBay will make a change, probably for the worse but who knows..
If bikes are for kids I'll never grow up.
