yz 250, frame vin number showing its a 2001 model, but engin

Hi please can anyone help with this, I have a yz 250, frame vin number showing its a 2001 model, but engine vin number is 3SP which I have been told that this is a 1990 engine? Is this possible for this engine to be in this frame?

3SP is a 1990 YZ250 engine ID.
If you are in the USA your 10th digit of your VIN should be a "L"
If that is the case then yes, you can put a 90 engine in a 01 frame.
The question would then be how hard is it and how much modification is required to make it fit.
Another thing to keep in mind when buying parts for your bike is what year is the part I need.

Also, double check your VIN again.
90 10th VIN digit is L.
01 10th VIN digit is 1
My bet is you misread the VIN.
If that fails, post a pic of your bike.
