We really don't want to do it as nearly every case the interchange does not work.
However, how do you tell a potential customer no without hurting their feelings?
Normally we say something such as the following:

"Hello. We can get you some dimensions but it will take a day or two as we are extremely busy with our current order load.
In the mean time, if you can tell me what bike you have we can look and see if we have the correct part for you. Thanks!"

Sometimes people still get upset because you can't drop everything and give them immediate satisfaction.
And if you do drop everything to help them, you never hear back from them.
The guy I got these measurements for did send me an email and told me it wasn't going to work.
Oh well, just more time and money

yeah, I can see that it wood be hard to say no.
Most of the time on ebay when i ask a question its days to wait for a answer if they answer at all.
It is frustrating
