We have access to a hot water pressure washer so, after every ride I wash my whole bike with it being careful not to get to close to the chain, bearings, seals, ect.
Then I dry it.
Last I spray WD-40 on the chain.
That's it.
No fancy chain lube, wax, or anything else.
Why?
The chain is all internally sealed so nothing you spray on the outside will get inside.
Therefore all you really need is something to prevent the outside from rusting.
Watch your sprockets for wear.
When they start looking worn (Sharp is bad) replace the chain and the sprockets together.
Your chain will last for years and look great for all that time.

After I clean my bike I spray loads of WD-40 on the chain and for safety measures I just spray chain wax on it.

How do you feel about dirt and what not sticking to the chain wax, or does it stick?

I noticed on some forum's they say not to use WD-40 as it is a penetrant and can cause the internal lubrication to break down.
I suppose it is possible especially if you have a weak seal, o-ring, or X-ring.
If that is the case then the chain would likely fill with grit and you would notice kinks in the chain.
My experience is riding in the dirt and sand and I always use top brand chains.
After 40+ years of riding I have never had a chain failure due to using WD-40.
I guess I need to do a chain lube product comparison....

for cleaning... I take it off and run in my ultrasonic cleaner....

I have a pan of Royal purple gear oil... that the chain gets tossed in for a few days.. (when feeling especially un-lazy) it gets tossed on the BBQ and heated up as well...

Only the plates are sealed.. the pin rollers ARE not... lube that puppy

I have had good success with the Synthetic version of "Chain-Wax" by Maxima. Doesn't seem to make as big of mess as standard chain wax. Also use the "grunge brush" as found in WPS for fast and effective chain cleaning.
