Here is a question from a prospective customer:
Will a 1985 KL600 front hub fit on a 2007 KLR650?
Here is our answer:
Hello.
Here is where the hubs are the same.
Both hubs are embossed F1146 on the center portion of the hub.
Both use a bolt pattern of 9 holes on 145mm so the rotors are interchangeable.
Both have 36 spokes.
Both have the same width of 101-102mm from the outside to the outside of the bearings.
Here is where they are different.
The 85 uses a 250mm rotor outside diameter and the 07 uses a 260mm rotor outside diameter. However, you can take the rotor from the 07 and bolt it to the 85.
The 85 is painted black, the 07 is grey.
The 85 uses a 15mm axle size, the 07 uses a 17mm axle size. However, if you buy a new set of bearings and seals for the KLR650 (We have them) they drop into the 85 hub no problem.
So, if you replace the bearings, seals, and brake rotor, yes, the 85 kL600 front hub will work on the 07 KLR650.
Thanks!
