Aerospace Protectant 303 Product review.

There are a lot of plastic protectors, restorers, and cleaners on the market.
It's really tough to know how they perform.

First, here is what the manufacture claims:
Use this 303 Protectant for Leather, Vinyl, Fabric, and Fiberglass

303 PROTECTANT immediately restores original color and gloss to faded fiberglass without buffing. Does a 20' boat in 30 minutes or less. Fiberglass stays showroom new with periodic spray on/wipe-off applications, usually every 45-60 days of exposure. Utilizes powerful ultraviolet screening technology developed for the aerospace industry.

Tested, used and recommended by major boat builders. An intense beautifier and the ultimate protection for inflatables. Use on fiberglass, vinyl, rubber, plexiglass, plastics and sailcloth.

One-step product. Water repellent and detergent resistant. Will not attract dust.

Over the last 15 years, 303 Aerospace Protectant has become a very important product to RV and marine enthusiasts. The 303 protectant is recommended to protect from UV degradation and to restore and preserve a like-new appearance.

303 Aerospace Protectant performs where other products do not, and is always the product of choice.

Some of you may remember this old fender from a previous review.



This fender is in really bad condition.
It is faded, oxidized, scratched, scuffed, and generally abused.
Without any cleaning I applied 303 Aerospace Protectant to the fender and let it sit for about 30 seconds.
Then I wiped it clean and did a light buffing with a red shop rag.
Here is the results:

It is definitely cleaner and shinier.
What we want to know next is how long will it last?
So the next part of this review will be done after the fender has sat out in the direct sunlight and exposed to the weather.

Well get this....
Someone stole my comparison fender.
No joke.
It seems that thieves will steal anything.
Anyway, I have started the test over again using a highly abused 1998 KLR650 front fender.
It has extreme sun fad and looks terrible.

Here is the new fender:



As you can see it looks very bad.
Here is the fender after I cleaned it with soapy water and fine steel wool:



Next I put a piece of tape roughly down the middle:



Then I applied one product on the left side and one on the right.



Both products made the fender look a lot better.
For now I'm keeping the comparison product secret and we'll which is better.
Let's see how they look after about a week of sitting around.

After a few weeks of sitting out side, I took the fender and wiped if off with a towel.
I did not re-apply the product as I wanted to see how it would stand up.
Here is the result:
As you can see, both products did a fair job of standing up to the direct weather.
So, what was the product I used on the left?
I used Black Magic Tire Wet
It runs about 5-7 dollars for 23oz. depending on where you get it at.
It certainly is less expensive then Aerospace Protectant 303 at about 9 dollars for 8oz.
HOWEVER! The one thing I did notice is that the Aerospace Protectant 303 looked shinier then the Black Magic Tire Wet before I wiped the fender off.

Conclusion:
Because the Black Magic Tire Wet is not a plastic product and because it didn't look as good before I wiped the fender down and because the Aerospace Protectant 303 has a slicker feel when totally dry, I give the edge 10/7 to Aerospace Protectant 303.
The long term benefits are unclear with my limited testing.
However, Aerospace Protectant 303 is my new favorite and I will be using it on all my plastics until I find a better product.
