OK... Sometimes you feel like a dummy...

I unscrewed the clevis off a 92 kx250 shock (Same as the KX500 clevis) and screwed it right on the KX450F shock.. 8-)

Before I go any further, I need a mock up.
Turns out I just happen to have a few spares laying around...
Except for the stupid swingarm that I had to buy on eBay :?

Why not bolt the KX450F shock to the 88 chassis and be done with it?
It is simply too long.
Here is a pic using the kx450f shock with it's stock clevis and bolted to the Uni Trak linkage

After swapping the clevis everything lines up perfectly

Looks great!
But it does not work :shock: :o :shock:
Note the location of the shock reservoir.
Note that the reservoir goes right through the middle of where the pipe is suppose to go.

So the two choices I see is to reroute the pipe or move the reservoir...

Can I do this on my 91 KX 500 frame? Why does it look like the top bearing isn't pressed in? Can I use a shock from a KX 250F of the same year?
