Good show!
Love how you bent the pieces.
It just shows what a guy can do with simple tools and methods.
Gotta love it.

What kind of welder are you using for the aluminum?

Thanks, I was very pleased how that bent too, I tried a couple of scraps to see if I could just do it by eye, it wasn't happening, out came the calculator.

It's a new machine I bought last year, it's an inverter mig, like the little inverter welders you get for stick, with a wire feed drive too. The welder is 12.5kg without the reel of wire.
It's a good tool.

I need a pressurised fuel supply for the carb, regulated as well and for that I have a malpassi regulator for carburettor applications. I bought a cbr1000rr fireblade tank, this is a fuel injected bike with a in-tank pump.

The plan is to cut the bottom out of the blade tank and weld it into the KLX tank.

And weld it in. Like this.....

I've still got to make up a couple of bits to fill in each side and get it stuck together but you get the idea.

That should work perfect....
Todd is checking on your rod still.
Hopefully we'll get a answer soon.

I eventually got on to the KLX yahoo group. I did a search for Carrillo and there has been a few made for the KLX650, they have most likely all been sold as they don't feature in the Carrillo catalogue. If they have made them they might be able to make one again. I will send them an email when I get a chance. See what they say.

Yeah, we tried to get them to make a batch of KX500 rods but we had to place a very large order and couldn't get enough guys together to make it happen.
That was a few years ago so it will be interesting to see what they say.
If you can't get a rod I have a few cranks and I'll send you one for just the cost of shipping

It could be that Carrillo has changed their policy on one off requests, I've re-read that posts on the yahoo KLX thing and the posts are from 2003 to 2013 so they musta started making them a while ago. I've emailed them now so just have to wait fora reply.
Kind offer of a crank mike, if you send it I can put a stickler on then saying, 'powered by oem-cycle'

No worries, I'm just glad your posting your methods and what you are finding.
If you decide you need a crank, let me know.
Thanks!
