Re: Sean Colliers KX500 build
So many lessons learned on this build.
Oscar did an excellent job of organizing sponsors and drumming up interest for this project.
Think about it.
A few guys get together, pool their resources, experience, and expertise, all to build a 30 year old designed bike to compete with the best that the current manufactures and race teams are putting on the track.
We did it with very little money so we needed some sponsors.
Some came through in a big way, others, didn't do so well.
We were given a dead line to complete the bike by Day in the Dirt, and told to ask if we needed any help.... We asked... We received little to no help.
This issue alone cost us over a month of build time.
At the end of this build I will detail all those that helped us.
Those that did not help us will not be shamed.... They will be ignored
Pro Action also came through for us on the front end..
Some nice new valves and shim stacks...
After all, you can have the best engine in the world but if you can't get the power to the ground, suck up the whoops, and keep the bike handling great, you will never have anything worth riding..
That is one ugly looking radiator...
But, at that point it was all that we had..
And, you should have seen it before I spent an hour straightening all the fins...

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 build
So here we were, a day before the race, looking for nuts, bolts, and washers..
We had to use Oscar's tap and Die set more then once..
And many times we resorted to grinding down bolts..

But in spite of the set backs we made gradual progress..

Now lets see... what was that torque spec?
Guts came through with some really nice seats...
In fact, I'm sending one of mine out to have it covered..

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 build
I love the way the rear brake set up worked out although I am making a new version that will go on Sean's bike and the rear brake in this pic will go on Sean's old bike.
Some have asked about the header wrap on the pipe.
It is simple insurance against heat on the shock and fuel system.
The way the bike runs I don't think that it is needed but hey, why not?

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 build
Here is a issue that came back to bite us in the butt during Sean's first race... Don't see it???? Stay tuned..
More progress... You can almost tell the amount of progress by the amount of tools and trash on the floor

Again, Millennium Technologies did a Awesome job on the machine work and plating to the cylinder.\
WPC Treatments made this bike shift so smooth and positive that I won't build my next personal bike until WPC does all my parts..
Oscar's daughter is such a little cutie... definitely get her looks from her mother..
