What do you do for riding fitness?

Post by Sandblaster »

Seeing as how 50 is only a few months away I really need to work out in order to get the most out of my K5's...
You can be really out of shape and still ride but if your breathing hard after just a few minutes are you really having fun and getting the most from your rides?

So, what do you do to stay in shape?

I started working out again at the gym.
In just a couple months I've dumped 15lbs, improved my upper body strength and endurance.
My cardio is greatly improved and I feel a lot better.
I'll post more on my typical workouts later..
If bikes are for kids I'll never grow up.

Since I am just getting back into it after a long absence I have real easy workouts so as not to injure myself.
Today was 2.3 miles on a treadmill at 4.4 mph or about 30 minutes.
Then I swam a half mile in about 20 minutes.

We'll see what happens tomorrow :)

Today I did mostly upper body.
Bench press, 6 sets of 15 reps at 90lb (Gotta start easy)
Reverse press, 3 sets of 12 reps at 180lb
Curls, 3 sets of 12 reps at 60lb
Pull downs, 3 sets of 15 reps at 140lb.
Then I swam a quarter mile.
Total work out time about an hour.
