Kx 500 conversion

Post by Tommy400f »

:) hi from Australia :). I've always wanted to do a 500 conversion and I've just been handed a kx 250f 2004 roller for next to nothing . But from all the research I've done , it seems the 04 is not the first choice for a 500 conversion , most of the info I have found is on 07-09 kx 250/450f
Has anyone done a 500 conversion on an 04 or should I hunt around for a 07 frame or roller ,,
Cheers guys :)

There is nothing wrong with the 04 conversion.
The nice thing about the newer bikes is that you will get more updated suspension, geometry, and parts availability is better.
That being said, a 450f frame is easier to convert as there is more room but you can do it...
If I got a 04 cheap enough I would do it... Why not?

Thanks mate , I've started doing some home work, there's plenty of kx 250f/450f wrecks 06-09 around , ( that's the good thing about 4 strokes) I found a step by step conversion for 2008 kx 250/450f , that's a big incentive :), from what I've read on the 04/05 250f conversions there's a few issues to overcome , , there's also the incentive of the af frame on 07-09 , where as the 04/05 is steel :)

Ah that's right, I keep forgetting about that.
I know a guy who has done a few conversions more then me and he really likes the 04-05 conversions.
They are easy to do and the bikes handle great.
