My questions to the seller:
What material are these made from?
Also, how thick is the tubing?
Finally, after weld, do you recommend heat treating?
If so, what method, temps, duration, ect?
Reply:
The rails are 25mm x 25mm x 3mm. The grade is 6061 T6.
Most people just weld the rails in and do not get them heat treated. The rails will only brake if they are no fitted correct and have stress on them.
Hmmm...
Having seen the stress analysis on these and seeing that under load these are under tension I have to disagree with this statement:
"The rails will only brake if they are no fitted correct and have stress on them."
However, that does not mean that they do not work as advertised.
Jfab uses the same material for his frame rails (I have a pair on my kx250f) and has hundreds of success stories.
I would also recommend stress relieving them after weld but that is a unproven point.
AJ at Service Honda said that they do heat treat their frames after welding.
Here is a Stress analysis using a KX450F frame with 25mm x 25mm x 3mm 6061 T6 aluminum.
This guy is using a rear head stay. Remember... red is bad
Here is another using a front head stay.
I will be using both a rear and a front head stay on my project so I hope this cures the problems a lot of guys are having with their conversions.
