Great question.
There is a easy way to find out...
I have three 89-04 kx500 heads in my possession.
Look at this pic..

My three heads measure the following:
.882" or 22.40MM
.895" or 22.73MM
.911" or 23.14MM

From a very reliable source he says that New heads from Kawasaki measure .910-9.12"

I would suggest measuring more then one location around your head
