Re: KX500 AF Build

Got the motor in this weekend.

Drilled the hole for the swingarm pivot bolt bigger and ground the collars very lightly to make the motor fit.

Then I cut the frame in front for the exhaust to fit.

Re: KX500 AF Build

I saw on your 500AF build you used the headstay and frame rails from JFabMotorsport.

Is it best to order from him?

I would like to start the prep work on my frame.

Re: KX500 AF Build

The engineering place said they sandblast the outside of the head somewhere during or after the nikasil plating process.

This gives it a very dull look. When i get it back should i send it in for vapour blasting and it will come out looking like that?

Apparently they sandblast it to get a blue ...

Re: KX500 AF Build

Re: KX500 AF Build

The outside of the motor. So cases on the outside, sleeve gets nikasil on the inside but when i get it back the outside will be sandblasted. So do i leave it like that or what needs to be done? And then the head on the outside.

When i am done i would like the motor to look brand spanking new.

Re: KX500 AF Build

ok, so I think I am going to split the motor, just for that extra peace of mind.

I took the sleeve to a engineering shop today and they said I need to strip everything out. even the head bolts.

But what I would like to know is. They say that they sandblast the head on the outside which gives it a ...

Re: KX500 AF Build

I suppose for the effort and money in the long run it will be a lot better to split the cases, and make sure everything is 100%.

Not that much more money, especially that the crank seems good. Just more effort. Will sleep on it tonight. :D

Re: KX500 AF Build

My Cylinder needs to go in for Nikasil plating. So I need to remove everything from the cylinder.

I am battling to remove the KIPS system.
I am following the manual but the idle gear moves slightly up and down but does not pull out. Not sure if I am missing something?
