Can't get any ammo!

My favorite store has no .22 12 ga. .223 .45 or anything but .17...
The .17 are fun to shoot but I don't own one.
So, what's the deal with ammo?

My father called last Fri. from Vegas, One store had one box of .380 and wanted like $30.00 for it. Thats it. one box commercially avail. in Vegas...
I was told the u.s. military usually buys ammo throughout the year. This year for some reason the got all they could as soon as possible.
The system is set up on fiscal years , so I'm thinking they got their orders in last October. The manufacturers ship in Nov-Dec, this would put everyone else in a shortage as soon as their stock had run out. The manufacturers are working to get the product out as soon as possible.
This is what the gun shop owners told the Old man and I have no reason not to believe him.
I don't know how much politics you want to discuss. But that's the most logical scenario I have heard...

Politics are fine to discuss but I will remain neutral
I have heard basically the same thing up here from a few different sources.
The military has some large orders in and the ammo manufactures are working OT to fulfill their contracts.
We are getting what is left over which isn't much.
Then we have the assault weapon ban on the news every night helping to fuel a rush for more ammo.
Oh well.
I still have a little in storage

A buddy just called me at 10:45 pm and said you better hurry, Walmart has some .223.
I took my wife and got the max 3 boxes each.
Then I noticed 6 boxes of 45 ACP .
I'll take those too please

lucky. i was at my local big 5 yesterday (their shipping day by the way).


and their 15' by 4' high ammo shelf. had 1 box of ammo. and it was some odd ball stupid thing.


talking to the clerk. guess when they get a shipment. they have a LINE of about 50-100 guys at the door waiting for the store to open. EVERY time they get a shipment.





I have started collecting lead scrap, and smelting it down into ingots. going to start casting my own ammo for the Ball and cap guns... as their supplies are atleast easy to get right now

The Big 5 store here get's there ammo in on Friday at 10am.
Last time I got there a half hour early and was first in line.
As it got closer to 10 more and more guys came and stood in line.
At 10 the doors opened and I walked straight the the ammo section.
The guy was behind the counter and waiting.
I asked how many boxes of 223 can I get and he said, "5".
So I said "I'll take 5 please".
He reaches under the counter and pulls out 5 boxes.
So I'm standing off to the side looking at other items and the guy behind me says, "I'll take 5 boxes of 223".
The guy behind the counter said, "I'm sorry sir, but were all sold out."
For a whole week all they got in was 5 boxes of 223 and no 45 acp and no 22LR.
About the only ammo you can still get is 17HMR and that's only because you can't shoot enough with your bolt action rifles enough to run out

I've begun too see some loosening of the ammo availability.
Mostly, .45 .223 12ga and even some 22lr.
Good, I love to shoot...
