Kickstand for 2002 KX500

Post by Christopher » Sat May 07, 2016 8:13 pm

Hi All,

First off, hope this is the correct board for this post.

I haven't gotten my thread started for bike build just yet, but I'm already scouring the web and forums for various ideas/parts. One thing I'd like to go ahead and get on with is a kickstand. I'm looking for advice on choosing between the following two kickstands.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-KICKS ... m9&vxp=mtr

or..

http://www.promotobillet.com/i-13353985 ... stand.html

Most people who use the pro moto billet have cut and shortened the stand so that there is a better lean on the bike. Since I don't have access to aluminum fabrication I will have to pay for this, increasing the cost of the stand.

On the ebay item I am assuming that the stand will have to be shortened and a plate/mount fabricated as well. As the starting price of the stand is cheaper I could end up paying less than the pro moto billet right out.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks,
Christopher

I have the Pro moto billet on both of my K5's.
With dirt tires I did not have to do anything.
When I put my street tires on it I had to remove about an inch or so off it and have the pad welded back on.
A hack saw and two minutes or less will remove the pad and shorten it.
It's the welding that gets me.
I take mine in to a guy I know.
The one thing about the Pro Moto is the bolts like to back out even with loctite so watch them frequently.
If bikes are for kids I'll never grow up.
