Re: Sean Colliers KX500 build
That pesky Emig kept getting in the way
But only a few corners into the first lap Emig goes inside, Sean goes outside and it's game over..

In all fairness, Jeff is a great rider and he made a few attempts to pay Sean back but the Groot had too much poop, and Sean is a amazing rider

Isn't Jeff riding a Husky 4 popper?

Yes we are.
How often do working men back yard garage mechanics get a chance to build a bike that was designed 30 years ago to compete with the most modern equipment and have it piloted by someone of Sean's ability.
It just does not happen... And there are some good reasons for it... Mostly it's the money

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 build
So... After all of that, how did Sean do?
In the first race it was a DNF.... Aggghhhh
Why?
Here is part of the culprit..
At least it was a big part of the issue.
The axle blocks did not fit real flat in the swing arm slots.
This caused there to be a slight pinching action instead of a nice flat total surface grip.
Sean loves to run his wheel as far back as it can go.
This would have been fine but the axle adjustment bolts were extended way out... and, because the adjustment bolts didn't hit the blocks very well centered (Due to the blocks being thinner then we needed), Sean hit a jump, came down, and the axle slipped forward..
Then, in the second race Sean had to start at the back of the pack.. During the first two laps Sean was tearin everyone a new seat pan... Then he seemed to slow down after the second lap but kept riding.
Sean never got passed and eventually took 22nd.
But here is what happened.
The cotter pin on the right foot peg came out.
This allowed the footpeg pin to back out to the point that Sean had no rear brake because the lever was hitting on the pin.
This is what happens when you get rushed, don't ahve the right parts, and the rider has Zero test time.
Both of these issues would have came out before the race if Sean had 3 practice laps.
I have to say, Sean is a amazing rider and rode that bike for all it was worth.
But with two piddle issues there was no way even he could have rode that bike any better.
Currently, the Groot is being completely taken apart, the frame is being Powder Coated, wheels are being built, new Radiators and hoses are being installed, the correct head is being cut, and a host of small swing arm issues are being sorted out at the moment.
We should have the bike ready to rip just in time for a magazine shoot...
I can't say any more then that right now..
But if things go good... You never can tell where this will lead

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 build
So the next day... we were all tired and a bit lazy..
So what did we decide to do?
Hey, let's go take a ride in the desert
But that is another story...
Here is Groot after the race..

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 build
So, clean it up and ride it???
Not so fast...
Since we did not have time to powder coat the frame before Day in the dirt we are doing it now..
Just back from the powder coater..
Drop in one clean engine....
