Cylinder ID and carb ID

It's just a lower end ,no cylinder , head or side cover! That's why i was wondering if there was a way to determine what year it was from actually.

It can be narrowed down to a year range.
97-04 USE A LARGER SHIFT FORK PIN & 1 LESS CASE BOLT & NARROWER SHIFT DRUM

Is the engine apart?

No the cases are not separated yet. Where is the case bolt missing from?

Finally got the lower half after all that the engine is on it. For some reason I had it stuck in my head engine number was on the side cover not the case.

95-98
If you had the cylinder or carb we could nail the year.

I see what you mean with the extra bolt, my case and cover do not match. From what you stated the lower end is 97 up and the cover is 96 down? Is that correct or do I have it backward? The bolt in the red circle goes all the way through the right side cover to the case, the red arrow is the extra bolt hole.
