How to remove your crankshaft main bearings from your cases

Pressing the bearings out is pretty straight forward.
Remove all the case alignment pins and collars or you will likely smash them flat :-)
As you can see in this pic, all the case alignment pins and collars have been removed.

I use two 2x4's to set under the case in my press.
I put the 2x4's, one on either side of where the bearing is in the case.
Your trying to distribute the pressure over the largest area on the case with the main support directly under where the bearing is.
In this example I used a 32mm socket for the ram to press against.
You may need to use a larger or smaller socket depending on brand and style.
Whatever size you use be sure that the socket will easily pass through the hole in the middle of the case.
Remember, you will be removing the bearing and the seal at the same time.
Bring the ram down until it touches the bearing.

Double check to make sure the case is sitting flat on the 2x4's and that there is nothing obstructing the ram.
Apply a little pressure and double check and potential clearance issues.
The drive it home.
Those bearings should come right out.
If you find it tough to get the bearings out and your afraid that your applying too much pressure, toss the case in the oven and bake at 250 deg F for about 45 minutes (Make sure the wife is not home).
Then try it again...

Now let's say it's a Red Dawn situation and the North Koreans have invaded your country and you have no access to a press.
In order to save the day you absolutely have to safely remove those bearings and seals..
Again, use the 2x4's under the case.
You can set the whole thing on a work bench or on the floor.
Using the 32mm socket and a extension you can drive the seal and bearing out with a hammer.

You will likely damage your extension so don't use a good one unless the North Koreans have invaded and your trying to escape :shock:
Yes, you need an extension or something similar otherwise you can damage your case when the bearing suddenly comes out. Without the extension, your hammer will come down on the case and that can get real ugly.

Sand Blaster if you have one handy what is the OD of the Crank bearing?

whilst I am at work I will get a tube mad to support the case

I should have looked at the dimensions...
I know the ID is 30mm...
