I have had a few people lately ask me how to check their port timing.
I made a quick N dirty vid to show roughly how to do it... Very roughly
Before Jason at JT Engine works pulls any engine down the first thing he does is wash it. Then he roughly follows the outline in the video.
Why do you need this info? Every engine is a snowflake (Motorrad IE Spiny Norman) It's true especially for the KX500.
Check the port timing on 10 KX500's and you will be shocked at the variance. You ever wonder why two otherwise identical stock bikes line up and one is always a little faster then the other? Port timing, squish, tolerances, and casting flash are generally the reason... Any way, here's the vid. If you have any questions, feel free to ask... And let's see who wins the prize

A squish band between 35% - 45% of Bore area is more typical for a higher revving engine.
50% - 60% is more typical for a lower revving engine.
