Sean Collier's "The Beast" Engine in for a refresh and mods.

Post by Sandblaster » Thu May 25, 2017 11:32 pm

As some will remember we had this engine in about 9 months ago.
We were told under no uncertain terms not to improve the performance.
So here was what we were told.
Make it shift good, and try to make it survive for a while longer.
The plating on the cylinder was worn out around the exhaust port, the piston was junk, and all the shift components were extremely worn out.
So, we replaced all the worn out parts with used parts that were still in factory spec.
We cleaned everything, polished a few parts, replaced all the bearings, seals, gaskets, o-rings, snap rings, and even tossed in a used piston with new rings.
After it was done the engine ran very well but it still had worn plating that desperately need to be replaced.
The crank was pretty worn as well..
Also, the power on this engine was explosive which makes it difficult to ride for 30+ minutes against other pro riders

Oscar put an hour meter on the bike the first time we had it.
When we got it back it had 10.8 more race hours on it.
Frankly I'm shocked it held together

Our goal this time is to rebuild the cylinder and head to the same specs as the engine in Groot.
New plating, porting, piston and crank are all in the works, along with some special mods that we will get too later 8-)
If bikes are for kids I'll never grow up.

I already know the port timing so I don't have to worry about that.
But I still need to get the head squish calculated so I need to get some additional measurements..

I spent a bit of time doing the rough porting the other day..
Today, Jason put his hand to the port tools and began to massage the cylinder..
No gloves, no eye protection... Nice Jason... Nice...
