Re: Sean Colliers KX500 Project "I was only going to inspect the top end"

Sorry for the late reply but here is the race breakdown..... DNF (27th) first race 5th second race 16th Overall Keep in mind that Sean was racing on a motorcycle designed in the late 1980's that was finished being put together at 10pm the night before with zero test time. Also keep in mind that in t...

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 Project "I was only going to inspect the top end"

The Beast now has a total of 1.2 hours on the hour meter. The 2 most noticeable improvements on the Beast are the Chassis and the Tranny. The Beast was treated to Pivot Works bearings all the way around.....wheels, steering, shock linkage, shock and swingarm. This bike feels very tight and has the f...

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 Project "I was only going to inspect the top end"

ITS ALIVE!! The Beast fired up in 4 kicks and got 2 heat cycles so far. One more heat cycle to go then a torque check on the head and jug. Friday I will be taking the Beast out for the break in ride and then to the Dubya Vet Nationals at Glen Helen on Sunday where Sean will let her rip!! Big Thanks ...

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 Project "I was only going to inspect the top end"

So here is a little info on the wheels and swing arm. After my buddy Tommy Roberts mounted the new rubber I found a few loose spokes and tightened them. Thanks to Pivot Works I had all the bearing kits needed for the steering stem, both wheels, shock, shock linkage and the swing arm. Scrubbed down t...

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 Project "I was only going to inspect the top end"

I can't begin to express how impressed and motivated I am by the efforts of both Mike and Jason. When I sent this motor to our shop in Oregon I knew that they were going to find some negative surprises inside. The fact that they have taken chicken $h1t and made chicken soup is a testament to the qua...

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 Project "I was only going to inspect the top end"

This is my buddy Tommy Roberts. Tommy is my age and was 18 years old in 1996 when Kawasaki Team Green signed him to the factory contract and the KX500 that was supposed to be Danny Hamel's. Tommy and Danny were very close and I could think of nobody better to get that ride. Well Tommy came over toda...

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 Project "I was only going to inspect the top end"

So pretty!! So since the original 1997 frame was found with broken shock linkage tabs we have to use this frame that was provided by FMF a while back as a spare.....I have not run the numbers but the graphics on the swing arm that came with the frame suggest that it is a 1991 model KX500. This frame...

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 Project "I was only going to inspect the top end"

Sorry I don't have any cool pictures to post right now as I have been running around trying to balance a primary job, a life and both of these project bikes. My extreme gratitude and appreciation to Sandblaster for helping me carry a good portion of the load. I will have photos to post later but bel...

Re: Sean Colliers KX500 Project "I was only going to inspect the top end"

OK, so what was supposed to be just an inspection for the head and jug for specs and work performed by the previous builder turned into a full blown quality budget rebuild. As I tore down the bike to pull the engine out I began to find issue after issue, basically a can of worms, Pandora's box and a...
